Livia, Ruth and Franziska with Kaya, Flora and Rocky (from 13.03.19):

The Linth plain is always very popular anyway: whether for us dog owners for a walk or for many cyclists (heavily visited on weekends). From Weesen (SG), the trail winds along the Linth (mostly gravel) downstream to Schmerikon (whole route approx. 4 hours). Downriver, there is generally no line requirement (Kt. SG > except at the Grinau lido and in designated nature protection zones). Upstream there is a line obligation (Kt. SZ and Kt. Glarus).

The entire route along the Linth is barrier-free (ideal for wheelchairs or prams) and can be shortened or lengthened as desired, as the train and/or bus station is easily accessible everywhere.

Today we decided to take the hiking trail via Biberlichopf, through the forest (Kaya as a hunter on a long leash, as there is a lot of game here).

We parked our car at Schiessstand Weesen. During the week this is no problem, on weekends there are often events here, then we recommend the parking lots at the sports field Moos (Weesen) or Bhf. Ziegelbrücke (chargeable).

From the shooting range we walk along the edge of the forest to Weesen "Rüteli". From there, always with a slight incline, we enjoy the view through the trees (in summer also recommended with many beautiful shady places). The fresh bear's garlic, which grows towards Biberlichopf on the wayside, is also wonderful. Good footwear is recommended, because caution is advised in wet weather.

From Biberlichopf we walked a part of the way on asphalt but only for a short time, because then the path leads down rather steeply to Ziegelbrücke (through cow pasture: cows in summer on pasture).

We crossed the station Ziegelbrücke and then walked upstream on the left side towards Weesen, so that our dogs could refresh themselves again (right side nature conservation > leash obligation). ATTENTION: a part of the track runs parallel to the railway tracks which is not secured (therefore the hunting Kaya was on the towing line most of the time).

From Ziegelbrücke the return trip takes about 30 minutes, but the area invites you to stay a while, so we recommend you allow enough time.

A really nice route, which can be integrated quite well into everyday life and provides a lot of variety.
