Nathalie with Indira and Roman (from 10./11.08.2018):

My brother and I started fully packed in Brig am Bhf. and fortified ourselves with a small breakfast in the beautiful town of Brig. Afterwards we went on towards Ried-Brig (Rosswald Bahnen) and took the gondola up to the top station Rossweid. If you like you can also walk up on foot. At the top again we stopped for a short while... Such a gondola ride makes you thirsty ;-). We followed the sign to Bortelhütten / Panoramaweg Simplon (attention sometimes only a small sticker on the sign). Again and again we pass springs or cross brooks, where we can cool down and refresh ourselves (nevertheless it is recommended to take water for the dog). In between we could also nibble on the delicious blueberries and listen to the chirping of the many crickets, which sometimes sounded like the hissing of snakes. The way up to the huts is partly quite demanding and sometimes goes into the knees (or my backpack was simply too heavy). You should also be a bit free from giddiness. Up at the huts, we get a very warm welcome. Because dogs are not allowed in the hut (attention above there is a leash obligation because of grazing work, but it is signposted) we marched up to the Bortelsee (reservoir) after a refreshment and nice talks. For a short moment, one could think one had made a side trip to the Antarctic, because ice floes were floating in the water. So that we could set up our camp for the night, we went down again a little bit towards the huts, because it was too rocky and windy up at the lake. After a rather cool and uncomfortable night (you are not 20 anymore ;-) ) we started again in the morning. Again a short stop at the huts and then to Rothwald. The way to Rothwald is a little bit narrow at the beginning but it is possible to walk on it. In Rothwald we got into the bus and back to Brig Bhf. The whole hike could be done as a day hike. But why be in a hurry if it is also comfortable :-). Because we started on Friday we hardly met any people.
