Livia with Kaya (from 23.03.19):

Already often passed by and mentioned again and again, today we started the adventure "Moorweg von Biberbrugg nach Rothenthurm".

We park the car directly at the station. After the underpass we already see the big overview board over the whole moor and follow the signs. First a few more meters along the road, past the gas station, then the path turns right. Luckily there is a waste possibility for "big shops" here. We walk towards the forest and look back again and again to enjoy this panorama. Wonderful this spring-like "forest-scent" in the air - our hiking time has started again *freud! Our highlight is the dreamy beaver bay. In summer there are certainly many nice cooling possibilities for us two- and four-legged friends. Designated grill places and on the whole distance again and again also romantic places with seats, invite wonderfully to stay.

We hike on footpaths, over wood-cutting paths and bridges, occasionally on gravel roads and cross the last snowfields (good shoes recommended). Good we left early (ground frost), because otherwise the slush would have been a bit strenuous in the long run. 1.5 hours later we reach "Äussere Altmatt" and whoever wants to can already take the return train (stop on demand) to "Biberbrugg" here in "Altmatt". But we want to go further and walk on the wide path to "Rothenthurm". This route is very popular with many excursionists, whether by horse or bike, pram or simply as a walk (about 1 hour). Even when there is snow in winter, winter hiking trails are prepared here and the paths are well marked.

In Rothenthurm shortly before the railway station (right side of the road) there is the possibility to shorten possible waiting times at the station with a "Café to go" (Café Restaurant Turm - open 365 days). The return trains run every half hour.

With lots of impressions in our luggage we return to Biberbrugg. Surely we have not been here the last time :-).

Good to know: If the temperatures are warm, start early and take the route the other way round, because the forest sections with shade possibilities are between "Äussere Altmatt" and "Biberbrugg".
