From Talissa and Finja (25.02.18):
ATTENTION: This tour leads along the Rheinfelderstrasse! For this reason I advise you to plan this tour on a weekend or even better on a Sunday or public holiday, because the Rheinfelderstrasse is the main road into the industrial area and especially during the week very busy! In the Hardwald Süd there is a year-round linen obligation, because this area is used for the ground water supply.

Start and finish: Karl Barth-Platz, 4052 Basel: From Karl Barth-Platz turn right into Karl Jaspers-Allee, where dogs can also get loose very easily. Follow the street until after the bridge and turn left immediately after the bridge into Neusatzweglein. Next cross the Gellertstrasse and then enter the Schwarzparz. Leave the Schwarzpark via the rear exit and before the motorway underpass turn right down the stairs towards "In den Klostermatten". Cross Lehenmattstrasse and follow Nasenweg to Birstrasse. If you like, you can walk to Birsstegweg (bridge) on the banks of the Birs or you can stay on the sidewalk for a few meters. After Birsstegweg turn right into Rheinfelderstrasse and cross the road at the Avia petrol station. Follow the road until you can go down the stairs on the right and then turn left into the path "Im Lerchengarten". After the church turn right and shortly after that you can already take a path on the right into the forest. I did not pay attention to my mobile phone, so I made a small detour via Birsfelderstrasse. Turn right there, pass the bus stop and turn right again. Turn left twice and then a bridge leads into Hardwald Nord. At the beginning the route runs on the Vitaparcours, where leashes are compulsory for the dogs. At the first fork in the road, turn left and follow the course of the Vitaparcours. On the way, you will find a cool barbecue area on the right side of the path, belonging to a forest playgroup, which can also be used by others, but of course with regard to the "equipment". A few meters further on, the path goes down to the left. This turnoff is marked with a Vitaparcours arrow. At the bottom you follow the Vitaparcours route and turn right. In the forest you can still see the results of the storms at the beginning of the year. At the 5 crossroads, take the second path from the left and follow the path in a right turn. This path runs parallel to the Rhine. According to Komoot you can also walk closer to the Rhine, but I suspect that the path is "blocked" with branches, which is why I did not find it. If you still want to take this path, you should take the first path on the left at the 5-way junction, walk back a little and then turn right onto the corresponding path. Our route runs along the forest path and approximately at the height of the boat station "Waldhaus", turn left and from there we enjoyed the direct view of the Rhine for a short time. If you go on, you will already see the first stop: the Waldhaus. Follow the path further. Shortly afterwards you have the possibility to go down to the left. Downstairs you could walk to the boat station or you could reach the restaurant Auhafen. We follow the brown arrow "röm. Watchtower", because this is the next destination. Follow the path straight ahead to the late roman watchtower. Follow the path after the watchtower and then you pass another barbecue area. Go straight on and follow the path. There are two junctions on the path leading to the Rheinfelderstrasse. At the first junction you walk past and take the second to the left. At the latest here I recommend to take the dog to the leash, because behind the barrier the road comes, which can be driven on even at the weekend more strongly. When crossing the road look to the left and right! With us there was not so much traffic and nevertheless I ran with Finja over the road! After arriving safely on the other side of the road, you are in Hardwald Süd and you have to keep your dog on a leash, because you are in the ground water area. Follow the road straight ahead until you reach the canal. Follow the small path directly next to the left canal and do not leave this path out of consideration. After a detour to the middle canal, continue along the left canal. At the next bridge I cross the canal and follow the canal, which soon goes underground. On the way turn right and cross the Grenzacherstrasse with caution. Follow the path straight on, past a small house and the next official path to the left back to the canal. I'm right after the first bridge again right along the canal. You pass another bridge and follow the canal to the right again. Here I would like to say briefly that one does not have to follow my route exactly and can also walk along the other canal or cross the Hardwald on the main paths. The temperatures are so low at the moment that the channel was even frozen. At some point the channel I followed makes a left turn. Back there I got a little bit lost, so I finally followed the bend and then turned left again over the bridge and via the main path towards the exit. I just made one more loop there. At the next crossing turn left and follow the path straight ahead. Then cross the bridge. After the bridge I turned right, but you can also take the left way here. I walked towards the tram stop Birsfelden Hard, but so that I don't have to follow the Rheinfelderstrasse, I went down to the left and after a few meters I left the forest to the right. Follow the Florastrasse until Salinenstrasse and turn left into it. Follow the road until it meets Muttenzerstrasse. Straight ahead down the stairs. Then take the Fröschenweg across the Redingbrücke and into the Redingstrasse. Follow Redingstrasse, past the Migros partner and then turn left into the St. Albanteich Promenade. Turn right over the bridge and up the path to Gellertstrasse. Cross Gellertstrasse, turn into Hardrain and turn right into Neusatzsteg. At the top, follow the Scherkesselweg, which becomes Karl Jaspers-Allee after the bridge. At the end of the avenue you are already back at Karl Barth-Platz and thus at the end of the tour.
