Nathalie with Indira (from 29.05.20):

If you are looking for small, idyllic mountain lakes away from the tourist streams, you will find them on Alp Walop. Surrounded by alpine meadows, the Walopsee, which has no outflow, lies in a kind of high valley and lets you immerse yourself in a magical realm. A wonderful demanding circular hike away from the tourist crowds. Until a few days ago I didn't even know that the lake existed at all.

The public parking lot is located in the middle of an alpine meadow. Therefore, I parked a little below, because I actually like to receive my car completely. :-). So we have to cross the occupied alpine pasture. The cows / cattle are curious but not pushy.

At the public car park, the first steep ascent of about 1.5 hours begins on a bumpy path (sticks are an advantage). At the top, after a short flat section, you are rewarded with a wonderful view of the Walopsee.

We go down to the lake and take a rest and after a short time a lot of small butterflies join us, as if they had only been waiting for it. Well strengthened we follow the flat section further to the turn-off Vordere Walop, where the next meters of altitude are already waiting for us. The ascend via Luchere to the Garte at more than 2000 metres is worthwhile once again, as there, one is rewarded with a fantastic view to the Bernese Alps panorama and in case of a good visibility, one can even see the Mont Blanc. We have another short break and enjoy the beautiful view.

It's all downhill from now on. At Rohrbode and Rieneschli you turn left and follow the signpost again towards Chlus. It is advisable to plan the tour in spring or autumn, when the pastures are not yet / no longer occupied, as the whole route is actually in the pasture area. We were still lucky. Alpine pastures with guard dogs could also occur, but I have not seen them.

Good shoes and sticks are an advantage, because there might be some snow. The route can be done without any problems with a dog if you are sure-footed (ATTENTION: area rich in ticks).

A dreamlike tour that I can only recommend!
