The Aare Gorge in Meiringen is very impressive in any weather. When the temperatures rise in summer, a visit to the gorge is a welcome cooling. The narrow path leads partly through a cool tunnel, but mostly on a wooden footbridge directly above the spectacular gorge. You almost can't get out of your amazement, the path is really a great experience for the whole family. The turquoise water of the Aare rages along the rock and seeks its way through the Bernese Oberland.
Dogs are welcome in the gorge on a short leash and even have free entry. Mutual respect should go without saying, the paths are quite narrow. Water bowls for the dogs are available at the entrance (west) and at the restaurant.
Families with children will surely enjoy the nice playground next to the restaurant from the west entrance.
The Aare Gorge is accessible for smaller and light wheelchairs and smaller strollers from the west entrance to the main attraction in the middle. After that, a few (wide) stairs follow.
The way back can be started on the same way, combined with a train ride or with a hike.
