Reto and Tanja with Kesh (from 02.01.2020):
We start at the big parking lot at the Cantine du Marché de concours in Saignelégier. First we follow a tarred footpath towards east with Jura pastures on the left and right. At Muriaux we cross the main road and climb up in the light Jura forest. Soon the path branches off to the left towards Arête des Sommêtres. Over adventurous steps, carved deep into the rock, we reach the breathtaking viewpoint. Just behind it, built into the rock, is the Refuge (hut) of the Alpinistes des Franches Montagnes, but it is not guarded. Back we follow the path down through the Jura forest until we reach the village of Muriaux from the west. Cross the village lengthwise and turn left onto a dirt road just before the main road. This leads us back to the village of Saignelégier. In Saignelégier we stop at a Breton Créperie. The dog is welcome and the galettes and crepes are delicious freshly made!
Note: We made the trail in winter, the big advantage is that it has no grazing animals. In case of snow it would not be possible to go to the viewpoint.
