Andrea Norinelli with Nikin & Pax (from 22.09.24):
The Murmeliweg and the Sonnenweg combined make a beautiful circular hike with a fantastic view of the north face of the Eiger. The hike starts in Käserstatt and follows a wide forest path over to Mägisalp. The path already leads over the first cow pastures, but the cows are used to lots of people and dogs and take us quite calmly. We soon reach the Mägisalp, where we have our first refreshment stop before a very steep but short ascent. The ascent then becomes a little gentler and we walk on a narrow single trail over cow pastures, through streams and are accompanied by fantastic views of Lake Brienz and the north face of the Eiger. We also pass an alpine hut where you can help yourself to drinks. The farm is guarded by a Bernese mountain dog, but it remained very calm and simply kept an eye on us. The cows were also very relaxed along the way and showed little interest in us even when we walked 2 meters past them. When we were there at the end of September, there were no suckler cows on the alp, so we can't say whether they are just as relaxed.
We soon reached the highest point and from there it was only a short walk down to Käserstatt. It's worth stopping for a bite to eat at the Käserstatt mountain restaurant, where the food is excellent and the dogs are very welcome.
