Luzzone Lake - SAC Motterascio Hut

The Motterascio Rifugio: 2172 metres of mountains, infinite natural wonders.

We were lucky and get one of the last parking places at the back of the lake. If you arrive by public transport or stay overnight in a camper/bus (you can use the parking lot at the front of the lake with WC) you can start your hike already from the dam. The path along the lake is wide and can be explored with prams (but gravel). Swimming is prohibited in the lake and other water activities are strictly prohibited. Each walk along the lake takes about one hour.

Our trip starts at the back of the lake, from here to the hut it takes about 2 hours. The first third of the hike is straight ahead, along the gorge, the rocks and in the shade of the trees. From the river crossing, the path is quite steep uphill. Fortunately we left early, because the rest of the time we walk towards the hut under direct sunlight.

The panorama of the lake and the mountains is enormous. Again and again we stop to admire the impressive nature in every direction. The mountain spring here is a dream: waterfalls, gentians and alpine roses show themselves from their most beautiful side.

Arrived at the hut on the high plateau we enjoy the great view before we start the return journey on the same way.

The hut offers overnight accommodation but dogs are not allowed in the building.
