From Nadine and Livia with Kaya, Nemesis and Katil (from 19.05.18):

Today we were in the oldest game reserve in Europe. Lake Garichtisee, called Mettmensee by the locals, is situated at 1600 m.a.s.l. Via the mountain road from Schwanden (GL) you can reach the cable car Kies by car or public transport, which leads to Mettmen. Free parking spaces are available, dogs are free of charge.

From Mettmen there are many great possibilities to explore this area. Also the Leglerhütte (SAC) can be reached from here in about 2.5 hours. A walk around the lake allows you to view it from all sides. Great barbecue areas invite (wood on site) and one side is accessible with wheelchair and/or pram.

We walked around the lake (approx. 40 min.), made a detour to the Widerstein (climbing garden), before we took the moorland path (there is also a natural Kneipp path) back to the starting point at the valley station Kies.

We recommend this place for families with children as well as mountain hikers, as there is a lot to discover for all levels of interest.

Important to mention again: the whole area is a game reserve, meaning that linen is compulsory, which did not bother our three discoverers at all.
