Stephanie, Argo & Naìra - 8zampe on the road ( from October 2020):
This hike is a must-do when you're in Ticino!
Choose a sunny day, take the first cable car to Monte Tamaro and off you go on this 4-5 hour hike between lakes and mountains.
At Monte Tamaro you can enjoy a first coffee or breakfast, visit the famous church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, see some sculptures along the way and then start the hike.
Along the way, there's the Monta Tamaro refuge (with a guard) and at the halfway point, there's an unattended refuge where you can buy water, drinks and snacks (fun, right?).
At Monte Lema I recommend a luch (or early dinner) with the most wonderful pizzoccheri of Lugano! * Both restaurants at Monte Tamaro and Monte Lema are dog friendly!
The wonderful thing about this hike is that you can leave your car in Rivera and there is a post bus that will take you right back to Rivera, with a combo price.
Just one more thing: keep in mind that it can be very hot in the summer, there is no shade and the dog might suffer from the high temperatures!
The cable cars open their season every year in April and the season ends in November. So you have plenty of time in the spring and fall to enjoy this hike.
