Anik with Olaf and Bora (from 19.06.18):

In Valais, irrigation channels have been used for many years and many of them can also be hiked. Bisses are artificially created water pipes. For the Beitra it takes about 2 hours. Start and finish are at the village entrance Visperterminen. From the bus stop "Dorfeingang" you walk down the valley until the first turn left. Follow this road until you reach the first signpost with Suone Beitra and turn right for the short descent. Dogs are allowed to walk along the Bisse without a leash. Olaf enjoys walking directly in the water, while Bora prefers to run alongside. At first we walk along a meadow which is also used as a sheep pasture, so close the doors again. Following the path is a wooden footbridge which ends with a small viewing platform. Next is an ascent which is easy for everyone. Afterwards you can walk along pastures again and enjoy the view towards Stalden and Riedije. A wooden tan and bridge can also be used for a Kneipp bath and there are certainly some photo opportunities.
At the next signpost you can decide if you want to walk left towards Visperterminen or straight on towards Birch. Today I decided to visit the hamlet Birch. The path leads us with a slight incline to the Beitra. The Bisse is partly a bit higher than the hiking trail, but with a wooden footbridge next to the Känel, it is easy to walk, even for the dogs. The path continues through two willow doors to a small waterfall and the start of the Bisse. A few meters before, the signpost points us up to the hamlet Birch. This invites you to stay and to meet Evt and someone else for a short talk. We follow the tarred road back to the village. At the Herrenviertelplatz in the fountain dog is allowed to take a bath. It is advisable to visit one of the restaurants and try a local wine and a Valaisan dish. Water for the dogs is not needed as there is enough available. However, it is recommended that masters or mistresses take something with them on the way.
