Danielle with Marinette and Biora (from 10.06.2018):
Today we start in La Neuveville and are looking forward to an easy hike towards Erlach with the destination Ins. It is already very warm in the morning and we realize that it will be much warmer today. We walk through the beautiful little town of La Neuveville where we find ourselves shortly after again between the beautiful vines. The view of Lake Biel is fantastic and the castle of Erlach is already visible from far away on the other side of the lake. We pass a fountain again and again and Biora can hardly be stopped when she hears the water splashing. We cross the small town of Le Landeron, which lies at the western end of Lake Biel. From there we cross the Zhil Canal, which connects Lake Neuchâtel with Lake Biel. Shortly afterwards we reach the wooded western shore of Lake Biel and a little later we reach Erlach with the castle and a few houses that crown the top of a steep hill. Here in Erlach the path also begins and ends respectively at the tip of St. Peter's Island, which is connected to the mainland by a footbridge. Erlach is known for its great and very popular camping site. We stop at the cosy fish restaurant (www.cabane-du-pecheur.ch) and enjoy a fine fish plate. The food was incredibly delicious and highly recommended! After the lunch break, a relaxed forest path follows the western shore to Vinelz, and then a forest and field path with a beautiful view over the fertile agricultural zone and we reach the stage destination Ins.
Along the entire route, the signposting of the Way of St. James was never visible. For the most part we had to walk on asphalt road. It is therefore not advisable to do this hike in warm temperatures. It is recommended not to do this hike on a weekend or holiday, because this area is very touristy and there are unbelievably many bikers on the way. So we had to lead the dog almost always on a leash.
