Angela with dog Belina - Insta @elo_belina (from 18.10.22):
The desire for an autumn hike in the sunshine led me with Belina to Rothenthurm. At the Rothenthurm train station we started our circular hike up the Morgartenberg. The signposts guided us through the village and past the archway of the red tower, which also gave the village its name.
It didn't take long until we had left Rothenthurm behind us and the path led us past farms and cow pastures. The cows were grazing peacefully in their fenced pastures and even a farm dog, which was watching us as we passed, was not bothered by us. My gaze was fixed on the Morgartenberg, which stretched out to our left and in the morning sun made the forest glow in its autumn colors.
The road now led along the moorland. Finally we came across the first fountain with running water. Right next to the fountain was also the first turnstile, which led us onto the meadow path. Uphill, we then crossed the pasture. The pasture was like all the other pastures we had encountered, grazed and without livestock. At the top, Belina treated herself to a drink of water from the well. Next to it was a very inviting fireplace.
Over a gravel path we continued upwards to "Chli Morgarten". Following the signpost on a meadow path, we looked towards the edge of the forest. Soon we would reach the edge of the forest and once again be able to immerse ourselves in the splendor of autumn.
Arrived in the forest, I was not disappointed. Between the large firs there were many deciduous trees and bushes, which now presented themselves in autumn colors. Mushrooms lined the path and the sun's rays shimmered through the branches. Partly there were short swampy path sections to overcome.
Belina and I reached another meadow section. The horizon told us that we would find the summit on this meadow. With each step, another piece of the mountain panorama became visible.
Then we reached our destination, the summit of Morgarten Mountain. We sat down on a stone and took in the scenery. I realized that since we had left the village and the farms behind us, we had not met a single soul. Together, Belina and I enjoyed the view and the peace.
After our break, we made our way downhill, towards Rothenthurm. Again, it was mainly meadow paths, which led through cow pastures, on which we hiked.
At the bottom of the road, there would have been the possibility to avoid a 20-minute walk on the paved road. Unfortunately, we overlooked the turnoff and so the asphalt road led us back to the village.
Satisfied and with many beautiful impressions of our autumn hike, Belina and I arrived at the Rothenthurm train station.
The tour is especially suitable in autumn, because the cows are already back in the valley (cow pasture crossing).
