Barbara, Vishi and Andreas (from 2 & 3 June 2018): 2-day dreamlike pilgrimage with dog

As planned we can start the partial stage from Rankweil to Urnäsch from the "Vorarlberger - Appenzellerweg". The temperatures are perfect for this hike of several hours. A few harmless clouds decorate the blue sky and so we start our 2-day hike in a good mood on Saturday morning with fully packed backpacks.

After we leave the plain from Oberriet and start the first altitude meters, we like it here much better. The Liebfrauenkirche of Rankweil can be seen for a long time while we are walking up as it is enthroned a bit higher up there. You can decorate the stage a little bit - i.e. make a few more "detours" e.g. to the Crystal Cave (maybe someone knows the book "Kristallhöhle" by Peter Beutler - recommended!), make a stop on the Montlinger Schwamm, where you can stop for a bite to eat and enjoy the fantastic view of the Rhine valley, or walk to the Forstseeli, which is very worthwhile, as it is a wonderful quiet spot in the middle of the forest with a very nice barbecue area. It is also advisable to walk up to the Bildsteinkopf from the Bildstein chapel - it is an idyllic, wonderful place to stay. At the lovely chapel Bildstein we take the time to light a candle and reflect on those we miss and to give a blessing to our loved ones.

Since we do these "extras", we were on the road for a few hours until we finally arrive in the evening at the beautiful Hotel Neus Bild in Eggerstanden. There we are warmly welcomed and enjoy not only an aperitif but also a delicious dinner on the fantastic terrace. This hotel is highly recommended - the food is also excellent!

The next morning, after a wonderful breakfast, we set off for Appenzell in bright sunshine. The morning mood is terrific and we then enjoy Kafi and Gipfeli on a garden terrace in the centre of the village in beautiful Appenzell. We then continue to our destination Urnäsch via Gontenbad and Jakobsbad. From Gontenbad we walk on the famous barefoot path, which is really beautiful. But since we have been walking for several hours already and barefoot would definitely be slower, we continue walking with our hiking boots, which is no problem at all. Here it has a little more people, but not really bad yet. There are plenty of opportunities to stop for a bite to eat. In Jakobsbad at the valley station of Kronberg we enjoy a lunch stop. By the way, it's worth making a detour to the Kronberg - whether on foot or by train!

We find the last part of our stage from Jakobsbad to Urnäsch particularly beautiful - it is the contemplation trail and anyone who loves the wild and beautiful nature is in the right place. A real dream and no more people!

For your information: on this stage you cross some cow pastures and there are bikes on the way to Eggerstanden from time to time. It has many brooks to cool down for dog and man, perfect for summer! Nevertheless it is recommended to have enough water with you. We are overwhelmed by this stage - it offers a lot of beautiful things!
