Reka Feriendorf Scuol

A small oasis in the middle of the beautiful Engadine mountains

Friendly people, fantastic weather, wonderful hiking trails and all this against an impressive mountain backdrop: we were able to enjoy all this in the small but beautiful REKA vacation village in Scuol.

Friday afternoon and we're once again in the car with our three dogs. This time we're on our way to the beautiful Lower Engadine in Scuol. But first there's another shock as we set off: Arrival time 21.22! It's 13.45. Fortunately, we don't listen to our satnav, which suggests ever more bizarre ways of getting to Scuol. At some point it becomes clear: the Tour de Suisse was heading from Chur towards Lake Constance and our satnav wanted to protect us from major closures. But all goes well, we board the Vereina motorail train without delay and a short time later we are driving into the beautiful Engadin. I've always been impressed by the mountain scenery here, as it seems to me that we are even closer to the mountains.

The REKA vacation village is located right at the entrance to Scuol in the middle of meadows, in a quiet, somewhat secluded location, but the train station and the mountain railroads are still just a 3-4 minute walk away. The village can also be reached in 5-10 minutes and the hiking trails start right outside the door. So the perfect location!
Our documents are ready for us at reception and we inspect our home for the next two days. A great apartment on two floors with a living room, separate kitchen with dining area and two bedrooms and bathroom on the upper floor. Once again, the apartment has everything you need. There is even a raclette oven in the kitchen. Two bottles of beer from a local brewery and a delicious Bündner nut cake are on our kitchen table to welcome us. A lovely welcome.

We immediately set off on a short walk to explore the area and give the dogs a chance to stretch their legs. Right from the REKA village, a path leads across a meadow down to the Inn. The river meanders through the valley in a beautiful turquoise glow and we look forward to the hikes of the coming days all the more.
Back at the apartment, we set about testing out the kitchen. Over delicious vegetable pasta, we make plans for the next day, study the hiking maps available at reception and drink a cool panaché to ring in the weekend. Later, we move to the comfortable sofa and round off the day.

We are up early the next morning and take the dogs out for a short walk. We are greeted warmly by the village chief and pick up a few tips for the hike. Fortified by our porridge, we set off on today's hike, which takes us via the Inn and Vulpera to the beautiful Lai Nair. There are plenty of picnic and barbecue facilities in the village. You can also drive up by car, but on beautiful summer afternoons there are a lot of people. We therefore soon turn off and come to somewhat quieter paths, but have to watch out for the suckler cows. In general, there are various areas in the area with guard dogs and suckler cows. These areas can be found in the Swisstopo app, but you can also find all the latest information on the Engadin Tourism website. We walk down to Tarasp, an extremely idyllic little village with a striking little castle on the hill, via a beautiful mountain stream where the dogs can cool off. You can find all the details about the hike here.

The temperatures are rising and a thunderstorm is brewing. So we quickly make our way down to Scuol, where we stock up on cool drinks and watermelon for the dogs before heading back to the REKA vacation village. The reception is busy when we get back, so I pop in to complete the formalities and we take the opportunity for a pleasant chat. The people from the village are incredibly welcoming, give us lots of tips and make sure that the guests want for nothing. We feel very comfortable and are grateful to be able to enjoy the weekend here. Hungry from the hike, we start with an aperitif before enjoying a sumptuous dinner and later making ourselves comfortable again in the living room. A thunderstorm rolls through outside while we put our legs up from the day.

The second day starts again with a bright blue sky. Unfortunately, we have to pack everything up again. But of course we don't go home until we've done a little final hike. With the guest card we received from the REKA vacation village, we can take the train from Scuol to Motta Naluns free of charge, and the dogs are free anyway. Once at the top, we are treated to a fantastic panorama of the Lower Engadin. We start off on beautiful single trails along the side of the mountain. You can see that this is a ski area in winter: the currently unused cable cars are everywhere. We walk along a beautiful and easy panoramic trail to the Flurinaweg.

We meet a lot of people there who are also enjoying the beautiful weather. We have also put together this hike for you and you can read the details here. The many opportunities to cool off were ideal on both hikes, especially in the warm temperatures: we kept passing small lakes or mountain streams where the dogs could swim and drink and we could refill our bottles.
At the end, we stop off at the newly renovated La Motta restaurant.

The vegan capuns are a dream, the ice cream really tasty and the staff totally fast and friendly. We head back down again, satisfied and with full bellies, and are soon back on the car train to the Unterland.

The weekend was wonderful, we were able to enjoy a really beautiful mountain world and relax in the beautiful REKA vacation village. The village is rather small, but all the more informal. There is a courtyard in the middle where you can meet the other guests and chat. The parking spaces are covered, which is ideal in winter when it's snowing and in summer when it's hot.

There is the appropriate infrastructure for skis and bikes, there are common rooms and various items and drinks can be purchased on site. There are discounted tickets for the Vereina, which can be purchased at reception. So everything is taken care of, you just have to go there and then you can enjoy it. This is exactly how a vacation or a break should be!

Goodbye & thank you very much Reka vacation resort Scuol
