Hochhamm round trip

The hike from Bächli up to the Hochhamm is full of views: in the south, behind the hills of the Appenzell hinterland and the Toggenburg, two striking mountain peaks rise with the Säntis and the Speer.

We start the tour in Bächli/Hemberg. There are parking spaces next to the Restaurant Rössli /Bächli. Follow the main sign opposite the Restaurant Rössli and follow the main road to Schönengrund/Hochhamm. After a few metres, turn right across the meadow uphill towards Hochhamm.

To the south, the Brandhöchi offers a view of Säntis, Hochalp and Speer. To the east is the village of Hemberg.

Continue along the hiking trail towards Hochhamm. On the ridge a path leads steadily upwards to the Hochhamm. Shortly before Hochhamm there is a well equipped barbecue area.

Continuing upwards to the highest point of the tour, the mountain restaurant Hochhamm, a wonderful panoramic view awaits you. On nice days the restaurant is always open.

From Hochhamm, take the same path back to the barbecue area, turn right there and follow the steep forest path downhill towards Boden Mühlitobel. Further down you come to the signpost Hämmliloch where you turn left towards Bruggli.

Later follow the asphalt road until you reach the house "Bad Bruggli. Turn left at "Ob der Säge" (a large farmhouse further down is the Sagerei) and then follow the hiking trail sign.

One now crosses a hearty ravine until one reaches Unterbomen, where one takes the last part of the road back to Bächli. On the way there are some cow pastures that have to be crossed.
