When the Hildisrieden area came to Lucerne after the Sempacher War in 1386, it had two farms, a chapel and probably an inn. It was only a small hamlet, but a prominent point on the way from Lucerne to Beromünster. At that time the inn served as a welcome resting place for people and horses. The Red Lion was already documented as a tavern in 1416, but it is probably even older and was probably the ancestral seat of the Habsburgs. Wine sales at that time were far above average. The economy was very respected. The red lion achieved a high annual turnover with 16000 litres of wine. That means the average daily consumption of 55 litres of wine. In addition there were two to three litres of must and half a litre of brandy. The Red Lion team is pleased that they can continue this tradition and count on you dear guests to outdo the wine sales of 1416.
